“I had multiple contractors come in for consultations for my project. We chose Green Island Design because of their originality. They presented me with ideas I had never thought about before that were not only pleasing to the eye but served multiple functions as well. I have not found many companies like this in the marketplace. I am so happy I chose Green Island.” F. Cummings, Dix Hills NY

Our Design Process

Our Custom Design Process

design-process1

The first step in designing your property is the most important. A custom design sets the tone of the entire project from start to finish. Whereas most clients get excited when breaking ground and beginning the actual installations – the most important phase of any project is the custom design. Whether your project consists of a pool, plantings, masonry, or any other design elements, it needs to be treated no differently than any other construction project. When building a new home or remodeling, a blueprint is used to plan, measure, budget, and execute the project.
Landscape design is no different. Working without a design plan leads to mistakes, miscommunication, over-budgeted projects, and confusion. This is exactly what we at Green Island Design try to avoid. Upon contacting our office, you will have the opportunity to describe your landscape design needs to a knowledgeable professional. You’ll be asked thoughtful questions in order to better understand the details pertaining to your potential project and begin to refine the potential scope of work. We then set up an initial consultation with one of our highly-trained landscape designers to acquaint ourselves with you and the needs of your property. At the meeting, we share our immediate observations regarding both existing conditions, as well as the potential of the site. We listen to how you envision your property – your private retreat. We discuss your family’s lifestyle and we study your property to provide you with the best possible design. We will then determine and explain the scope of our custom landscape design plan, offer a mutual design agreement to sign, and discuss the time frames and budgets involved. Next, we will schedule our on-site field analysis, which will provide us with all of the measurements and data necessary to develop our vision of your property. Green Island’s landscape design team will then begin preparing a custom design concept based on your specific tastes and styles as well as our time-tested design concepts. Using cutting-edge technology, our team of landscape designers work closely with the client to ensure that the ideal plan for their property may be realized conceptually. Setting us apart from most other designers, Green Island Design has the ability to produce a “Virtual Tour” or Custom Rendering of the property, enabling the client to see the finished project from any angle they may choose. You will be able to take a dip in your pool or grill at your outdoor kitchen before any construction begins. This allows our clients to experience their actual project and make any adjustments or additions before plans have been finalized and ground has been broken. This design concept will incorporate all aspects of the project, as well as provide an essential tool above and beyond the traditional design methods associated with landscape design. This is truly the future of landscape design on Long Island. Once the design team has developed and completed your custom design, we will set up a presentation meeting where we will review your initial landscape design plan, as well as the comprehensive proposal describing the scope of work and potential costs for all associated tasks and materials. This proposal is a comprehensive breakdown of the entire project and all of the elements involved. Each portion of the project is priced separately, with a full explanation of how it will be built, as well as the materials used and construction methods involved. This allows us to discuss every aspect of the project with the homeowner and together decide what is in their best interests moving forward. After the initial plan is reviewed, we welcome all feedback and work on any potential adjustments or additions between the client and their designer. The goal is to create a custom design plan that captures our clients’ dreams and imagination, as well as fit within their potential budget. Once the initial design concept is finalized, the next step in the process is taking this vision and making it a reality.
